Shift Control Cable: Installation

  1. Route the cable through the hole in the front compartment floor pan. Install the cable grommet to the base of the transmission control. Install the range selector lever cable to the cable bracket. Move the range selector lever into the Neutral position. Rotate the lever counterclockwise from Park through Reverse and into Neutral.
  2. Install the range selector lever cable to the range selector lever on the transmission. Install the range selector lever cable retainer to the range selector lever on the transmission. See Figure . Lower the vehicle.
    3. NOTE: The transmission control must remain in the Neutral position until the cable installation is complete.
  3. Place the transmission control in Neutral. Install the range selector lever cable to the transmission control. See Figure . Install the lock adjustment button on the cable to the range selector bracket. Turn the lock adjustment button counterclockwise. Install the front floor console trim plate. See TRIM PLATE  . Check the vehicle for proper operation. Readjust the cable if necessary. See SHIFT CONTROL CABLE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
