10-Minute Relearn Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use this procedure after replacing Passkey® III ignition keys, TDC module or PCM.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver side of instrument panel, near steering column.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  3. Ensure all power consuming devices are turned off.
  4. Using scan tool, select REQUEST INFO under service programming system and follow scan tool instructions.
  5. Disconnect scan tool from vehicle, and connect scan tool to a Techline terminal with latest service programming system software.
  6. Using Techline terminal, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM, and follow Techline terminal instructions.
  7. Disconnect scan tool from Techline terminal, and connect to DLC.
  8. Using master Passkey® III ignition key, turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  9. Using scan tool, select PROGRAM ECU under service programming system.
  10. Ensure scan tool stays connected to vehicle for 10 minutes.
    11. NOTE: On some vehicles, SECURITY indicator may illuminate on steady for duration of 10-minute relearn procedure.
  11. Observe scan tool after 10 minutes. Scan tool will display PROGRAMMING SUCCESSFUL, TURN OFF IGNITION. Vehicle is now ready to relearn key information and/or passwords on next ignition switch cycle from OFF to RUN positions.
  12. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, and wait 5 seconds.
  13. Using master Passkey® III ignition key, start vehicle. Theft deterrent control module has now learned key transponder information, and PCM has now learned fuel continue password.
  14. Using scan tool, clear all DTCs.
