Electronic Brake Control Module: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 2002 Chevrolet Impala, 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and 2001 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use correct fastener in correct location. Replacement fasteners must be correct part number for application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in service procedures. DO NOT use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage fastener. Use correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to part and systems.
  1. Install EBCM to BPMV. Install four retainers that attach EBCM to BPMV. Connect EBCM harness connector. Push down lock tab and move sliding connector cover back in home position to lock. Reengage red locking tab to connected lock tab. Connect accelerator and cruise control cable to accelerator control cable bracket.
  2. On 3.4L engine, assemble intake air duct and MAF sensor. Install assembly to throttle body and air cleaner assembly. Secure 3 clamps on intake air duct/MAF sensor assembly.
  3. On 3.8L engine, carefully install PCM housing by pushing housing into 2 rubber grommets in engine compartment. Carefully reinstall PCM and harness into PCM housing. Install air cleaner housing cover assembly. Install 2 screws into 2 air cleaner housing sections. Carefully install air intake duct to throttle body and air cleaner housing. Install air intake duct to air cleaner housing. Position inner fender brace and reinstall 3 bolts. Connect IAT Sensor electrical connector.
  4. On all engines, if cruise control cable has been disconnected from cruise control module, perform following: On Impala, disengage cruise control cable adjuster lock by spreading adjuster lock tabs and pulling adjuster lock out. Slide cruise control cable adjuster forward, away from cruise control module. Remove as much cruise control cable slack as possible without moving throttle lever. Engage cruise control cable adjuster lock by pushing adjuster lock in. On Monte Carlo, disengage cruise control cable adjuster lock by clamping side of cruise control cable adjuster lock with a pair of pliers and pull adjuster lock out. Slide adjuster forward to take slack out of cable or slide adjuster backward to slacken cable. Make adjustments without moving throttle lever. Engage cruise control cable adjuster lock by pushing adjuster lock in towards throttle lever.
  5. On all models, install cruise control module on mounting studs located on shock tower. Install cruise control module mounting nuts. Install electrical connector to cruise control module. If cruise control cable had been removed, install cable and adjust as follows.
  6. Align front end sheet metal diagonal brace to radiator support and to inner fender. Install bolts to front end sheet metal diagonal brace at radiator support. Tighten front end sheet metal diagonal brace at radiator support bolts to 18 ft. lbs (25 N.m). Install bolts to front end sheet metal diagonal brace at inner fender. Tighten front end sheet metal diagonal brace to inner fender bolts to 35 ft. lbs (47 N.m). Install electrical harness push-in connector to brace. Close hood.
  7. Remove oil fill cap. Insert tab of fuel injector sight shield under engine bracket. Place hole of engine cover. Install oil fill cap.
  8. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, DO NOT start engine. Perform anti-lock brake system diagnostic system check. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
