Door System Diagnostic System Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, and 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on left side of instrument panel, near steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Attempt to establish communication with Body Control Module (BCM). If scan tool communicates with BCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Select DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool for BCM. If any DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, diagnose and repair power door lock system by symptom.
  4. If communication DTCs (DTCs beginning with a "U") are not retrieved, go to next step. If any DTCs beginning with "U" are retrieved, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If DTC B1000 or B1001 are not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1000 or B1001 are retrieved, go to DTC B1000: BODY CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTION  and/or DTC B1001: OPTION CONFIGURATION ERROR  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  6. If DTC B1372 or B1382 are not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1372 or B1382 are retrieved, go to DTC B1372: IGNITION 1 CIRCUIT LOW  and/or DTC B1382: IGNITION ACC CIRCUIT LOW  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  7. If no powertrain DTCs (DTCs beginning with "P") are retrieved, go to next step. If any DTCs beginning with "P" are retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  8. If DTC B3127, B3132, B3133, B3137, or B3138 are retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If DTC B3127, B3132, B3133, B3137, or B3138 are not retrieved, diagnose and repair door system by symptom using appropriate article.
