Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, and 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Tech 2 scan tool must be used to program Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitters. Up to 4 transmitters can programmed to Body Control Module (BCM) at one time. All transmitters to be used must be programmed in same programming session. Leave a window down during reprogramming procedure. This will prevent unintentional lockout if reprogramming procedure is not performed properly.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. To add or replace a transmitter, use scan tool BODY CONTROL MODULE SPECIAL FUNCTIONS: ADD/REPLACE KEY FOB to place Body Control Module (BCM) in program mode. To program all transmitters, use scan tool BODY CONTROL MODULE SPECIAL FUNCTIONS: CLEAR MEMORY & PROGRAM ALL FOBs to place BCM in program mode. BCM will confirm entry into program mode by locking and unlocking doors, cycling rear compartment lid release and sounding horn. These conditions should occur within 2 seconds.
  2. When BCM has entered program mode, press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on first transmitter to be programmed for approximately 12 seconds. BCM will confirm programming of first transmitter by locking and unlocking doors, cycling rear compartment lid release and sounding horn.
  3. For adding or replacing a transmitter, repeat procedure from step  1 . For programming all (up to 4) transmitters, repeat procedure from step  2 . Remove scan tool from DLC. Operate transmitter(s) functions to verify correct system operation.
