Test B: Panic Mode Inoperative

  1. If Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If RKE diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Using RKE transmitter, attempt to operate panic function. If horns, parking lights and daytime running lights do not pulse on and off, go to next step. If horns, parking lights and daytime running lights pulse on and off, perform procedure while wiggling related wiring and connectors. This can often cause an intermittent malfunction to appear.
  3. If any panic functions operate, go to next step. If no panic functions operate, see KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM INOPERATIVE  .
  4. If horns pulse on and off, check exterior lighting. See wiring diagram in EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. If horns do not pulse on and off, perform HORNS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. For 2002, perform HORNS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
