Circuit Description
The DTC P1349 Intake Camshaft Position (CMP) System diagnostic monitors operation of Camshaft Position (CMP) actuator solenoid. CMP actuator solenoid enables the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to change intake camshaft timing while engine is running. CMP actuator solenoid contains a spool valve that controls the advance of the camshaft. CMP actuator solenoid is controlled by a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal from PCM. CMP sensor monitors camshaft position or camshaft angle, and compares that position or phase to Crankshaft Position (CKP) senor signal. PCM determines whether camshaft angle is correct by comparing actual camshaft position to target camshaft position. By continuously analyzing the input of CMP and CKP sensors, PCM can detect a fault in CMP actuator system.
