Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pulley to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pulley Replacement (LA1)  or Power Steering Pulley Replacement (LY7) .
  2. Uncap off the power steering pump and hoses.
  3. Position the power steering pump to the vehicle.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  5. Install the power steering pump mounting bolts. HAND TIGHTEN ONLY.
  6. Install the side power steering mounting bolt (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the side power steering mounting bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the rear power steering mounting bolt (2).

    Tighten:  Tighten the rear power steering mount bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  8. Connect the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the power steering pump.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering pressure pipe/hose fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  9. Connect the power steering reservoir inlet hose to the power steering pump.

  11. Use the utility stand in order to raise the frame and the powertrain.
  12. Install the rear frame bolts. Refer to Frame Replacement - Front (W/AWD) or Frame Replacement - Front (W/FWD) in Frame and Underbody.
  13. Remove the utility stand from the vehicle.
  14. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  15. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine in Body Front End.
  16. Install the accessory drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
  17. Install the front right wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
  20. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
