Installation Procedure
- Install the power steering pump (1) to the cylinder head.
- Install the 2 bolts (2, 3) in order to retain the pump to the cylinder head.
Tighten: Tighten the 2 bolts to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).
- Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON®-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (3) for the high pressure port.
- Install the power steering gear inlet pipe and the NEW O-ring to the high pressure port on the pump.
Tighten: Tighten the flare nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
- Install the reservoir outlet hose (1) to the pump. Install the hose clamp (4).
- Install the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
- Install the engine accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory in Engine Mechanical - 5.7L.
- Install the intake components. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
- Remove the drain pan.
- Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
