Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pump (1) to the cylinder head.
  2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the 2 bolts (2, 3) in order to retain the pump to the cylinder head.

    Tighten:  Tighten the 2 bolts to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).

  5. Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON®-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (3) for the high pressure port.
  6. NOTE: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  7. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe and the NEW O-ring to the high pressure port on the pump.

    Tighten:  Tighten the flare nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

  8. Install the reservoir outlet hose (1) to the pump. Install the hose clamp (4).
  9. Install the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
  10. Install the engine accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory in Engine Mechanical - 5.7L.
  11. Install the intake components. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  12. Remove the drain pan.
  13. NOTE: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  14. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  15. NOTE: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  16. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
