Installation Procedure

    NOTE: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in Cautions and Notices.

  1. Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON®-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (17) for the outlet port on the power steering gear.
  2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the power steering gear outlet pipe and a NEW O-ring to the steering gear.

    Tighten:  Tighten the flare nut to 36 N.m (27 lb ft).

  4. Install the 2 outlet pipes (10, 13) to the 2 power steering fluid cooler hoses. Install the 2 hose clamps (11, 12).
  5. Install the outlet pipe to the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose. Install the hose clamp (5).
  6. Install the bolt (4) in order to retain the outlet pipe to the left frame.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 6.5 N.m (57.5 lb in).

  7. Install the 2 clips (7, 9) and the 2 bolts (6, 8) to the 2 outlet pipes.

    Tighten:  Tighten the 2 bolts to 6.5 N.m (57.5 lb in).

  8. NOTE: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  9. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  10. NOTE: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
