Scan Tool Data Definitions

Use the Scan Tool Data List  and Scan Tool Data Definitions information to assist in the diagnosis of vehicle malfunctions. Compare the scan tool data display with the information in the typical data value table. Use the information to aid in understanding the nature of the problem when the scan tool data does not match the typical data values.

The scan tool typical data values were taken from a known good vehicle under the following conditions:

Accessory

The body control module (BCM) uses this data in order to determine the position of the ignition switch. ON is displayed when the ignition switch is in the ON or ACCY position.

Battery Voltage

Displays the battery voltage supplied to the BCM.

Driver Door Ajar Sw.

The scan tool displays On/Off. On is displayed when the driver door is open, Off when closed.

Ignition 1

The BCM uses this data in order to determine the position of the ignition switch. ON is displayed when the ignition switch is in the ON or CRANK position.

Key in Ignition

This information refers to whether or not the ignition key is inserted into the ignition switch. The BCM uses this data to perform chime functions. ON is displayed when the key is inserted into the ignition switch.

Passenger Door Ajar Sw.

The scan tool displays On/Off. On is displayed when at least one passenger door is open, Off when all passenger doors are closed.
