Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector C3 at the PSCM.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for between 2 and 20 ohms of resistance between the exciting circuit terminal 1 and the exciting ground circuit terminal 3 of the torque sensor.
    • If outside the specified range, test the exciting and exciting ground circuits for a short or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the steering column.
  3. Ignition OFF, test for between 100 and 500 ohms of resistance between the input SIN circuit terminal 5 and the torque sensor ground circuit terminal 4 of the torque sensor.
    • If outside the specified range, test the input SIN and the torque sensor ground circuits for a short or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the steering column.
  4. Ignition OFF, test for between 300 and 1000 ohms of resistance between the input COS circuit terminal 6 and the torque sensor ground circuit terminal 4 of the torque sensor.
    • If outside the specified range, test the input COS and the torque sensor ground circuits for a short or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the steering column.
  5. Ignition OFF, test for between 50 and 200 ohms of resistance between the output SIN circuit terminal 7 and the torque sensor ground circuit terminal 4 of the torque sensor.
    • If outside the specified range, test the output SIN and the torque sensor ground circuits for a short or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the steering column.
  6. Ignition OFF, test for between 200 and 800 ohms of resistance between the output COS circuit terminal 8 and the torque sensor ground circuit terminal 4 of the torque sensor.
    • If outside the specified range, test the output COS and the torque sensor ground circuits for a short or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the steering column.
  7. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 Mega-ohm of resistance between the exciting ground circuit terminal 3 and the torque sensor ground terminal 4.
    • If less than the specified range, test the exciting ground circuit for a short to the torque sensor ground circuit. If circuits test normal, replace the steering column.
  8. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 Mega-ohm of resistance between the torque sensor ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the torque sensor ground circuit for a short to ground. If circuits test normal, replace the steering column.
  9. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 Mega-ohm of resistance between the exciting ground circuit terminal 3 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the exciting ground circuit for a short to ground. If circuits test normal, replace the steering column.
  10. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the PSCM.
