Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Cadillac DTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Right SOD Indicator Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the right SOD sensor.
  2. Test for less than 5.0 ohms between the right SOD ground circuits terminals 5 and 6 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuits for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 and X7 harness connector at the right front door module.
  5. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the SOD indicator low reference circuit connector X3 terminal 8 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  6. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 ohm between the SOD indicator signal circuit connector X7 terminal 8 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
  7. Ignition ON, test for less than 1.0 volt between the SOD indicator signal circuit connector X7 terminal 8 and ground.
    • If the greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
  8. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector X2 at the right outside rearview mirror.
  9. Test for less than 1.0 ohm along the right SOD indicator signal circuit connector X7 terminal 8 and the right outside rearview mirror terminal.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the right side rearview mirror.
  10. If all circuits test normal, replace the right door module.

Left SOD Indicator Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the left SOD sensor.
  2. Test for less than 5.0 ohms between the left SOD sensor ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 and X7 harness connector at the left front door module.
  5. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the left SOD indicator low reference circuit connector X3 terminal 8 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  6. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 ohm between the left SOD indicator signal circuit connector X7 terminal 8 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
  7. Ignition ON, test for less than 1.0 volt between the left SOD indicator signal circuit connector X7 terminal 8 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
  8. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector X2 at the left outside rearview mirror.
  9. Test for less than 1.0 ohm along the left SOD indicator signal circuit connector X7 terminal 8 and the left outside rearview mirror terminal.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the left side rearview mirror.
  10. If all circuits test normal, replace the left door module.

SOD Indicators Stay On After Self Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the left and right side SOD sensor.
  2. Test for less than 5.0 ohms between the ground circuit terminals listed below and ground.
    • Right SOD Sensor Terminal 5
    • Right SOD Sensor Terminal 6
    • Left SOD Sensor Terminal 5
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminals listed below and ground.
    • Left SOD Sensor Terminal 2
    • Right SOD Sensor Terminal 2
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. If all circuits test normal, replace the right or left SOD sensor.
