Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Hummer H2. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Rear Vision System Always On

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rearview camera image display module.
  2. Ignition ON, vehicle in PARK, verify a test lamp does not illuminate between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit test normal, refer to Backup Lamps Malfunction .
  3. If all circuits test normal, replace the rearview camera image display module.

Rear Vision System Does Not Display

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rearview camera image display module.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 ohm between the camera video signal circuit terminal 11 and ground.
    • If less than 1.0 ohm, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the camera video signal circuit terminal 11 and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  4. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 ohm between the camera video signal circuit terminal 12 and ground.
    • If less than 1.0 ohm, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  5. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the camera video signal circuit terminal 12 and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  6. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector X4 at the radio.
  7. Test for less than 1.0 ohm along the signal circuit terminal 11 to terminal 7.
    • If greater than 1.0 ohm, repair the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
  8. Test for less than 1.0 ohm along the signal circuit terminal 12 to terminal 6.
    • If greater than 1.0 ohm, repair the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
  9. If all circuits test normal, replace the rearview camera module.

Service Rear Vision Camera System is Displayed

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rearview camera image display module.
  2. Ignition ON, vehicle in PARK, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  3. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 2 and the ground circuit terminal 3.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Park brake applied, transmission in reverse, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the body control module (BCM).
  5. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the rearview camera image display module and disconnect the harness connector at the rearview camera.
  6. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
    • If greater than 1.0 ohm, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rearview camera image display module.
  7. Ignition ON, command the backup lamps with a scan tool.
  8. Test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 6-volt reference circuit terminal A and ground.
    • If less than 4.8 volts, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rearview camera image display module.
    • If greater than 5.2 volts, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rearview camera image display module.
  9. Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1.0 ohm between the camera video signal circuit terminal C and ground.
    • If less than 1.0 ohm, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rearview camera image display module.
  10. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the camera video signal circuit terminal C and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rearview camera image display module.
  11. Ignition OFF, disconnect the rearview camera module. Test for less than 1.0 ohm along the signal circuit terminal C to terminal 9.
    • If greater than 1.0 ohm, repair the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
  12. If all circuits test normal, replace the rearview camera.
