Knock Control: 944S

Ignition knock on 944S models is sensed by 2 knock sensors. These sensors are mounted in the cylinder block, between cylinders No. 1 and No. 2 and between cylinders No. 3 and No.4.

Ignition for the affected cylinder is retarded 3 degrees. If knocking occurs again, the ignition of the cylinder will be retarded again by 3 degrees, up to a total of 9 degrees. If this stops the engine knocking, the ignition will be advanced to the correct value in steps.
