Knock Control

Ignition knock on 944-S and 944 Turbo models is sensed by knock sensor. Sensor is mounted on crankcase, between cylinders No. 2 and 3. Ignition for the affected cylinder is retarded 3 degrees. If knocking occurs again, the ignition of the cylinder will be retarded again by 3 degrees, up to a total of 9 degrees. If this stops the engine knocking, the ignition will be advanced to the correct value in steps.
