Toe-In Adjustment (Front Axle)
- Before checking, see WHEEL ALIGNMENT PRELIMINARY CONDITIONS and WHEEL ALIGNMENT WORK SEQUENCE .
- Measure front toe-in. If toe-in needs adjustment, go to next step.
- Center steering wheel by turning wheels to straight-ahead position.
- Remove cover for underbody (transmission protection). Remove heat insulation panel from steering gear. See Fig 1 .
- Mark steering gear center position. The marking for the steering center position is under the heat insulation panel at the front in the direction of travel, on steering gear housing. See Fig 2 .
- Clamp steering wheel in center position with steering wheel holder.
- Measure front toe-in. If necessary, adjust front toe-in at the tie rod end ball joint (B). Loosen lock nut to adjust. See Figure .
- Tighten lock nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- With steering gear still in center position, check steering wheel alignment. If necessary, reposition steering wheel to center position. See STEERING WHEEL in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- If front toe-in needed adjustment, recalibrate steering angle sensor. See INITIALIZING & CALIBRATING STEERING ANGLE SENSOR .
WARNING:
Vehicle is equipped with air bag. Use steering wheel holder which does not project into area of driver's air bag unit.
