Ignition System - BOSCH Hall Effect: Description

NOTE: Ignition system on Saab models with knock sensors is controlled through the Bosch LH Jetronic control unit.

The typical Bosch Hall Effect electronic ignition system consists of an ignition coil, distributor with Hall Effect sending unit, Hall ignition control unit, vacuum and centrifugal advance mechanisms (some models). A vacuum/pressure control unit on the distributor of Saab Turbo models retards timing during turbo boost conditions.

Saab 900 and 9000 models equipped with a tachometer utilize an ignition pulse amplifier, located in the relay panel behind the glove compartment. This amplifier is used to reduce ignition interference in the other electronic control systems of the vehicle.
