ISSUE & TIP

Shorted distributor secondary wiring may cause an engine miss under acceleration on some Saab 9000 models. Check the 90 degree coil wire boot at the distributor.

The coil wire is occasionally positioned so that it is sitting right on top of a spark plug wire elbow. If the wiring insulation has broken down, the spark may jump from the coil wire directly to the spark plug wire below.

This causes the engine miss and loss of power because the spark ends up going to the wrong cylinder at the wrong time. Replace any damaged secondary ignition wires, then position their terminal ends on the distributor to avoid damage or interference.
