Engine Controls - Sensor Operating Range Charts: Introduction

Sensor operating range information can help determine if a sensor is out of calibration. An out-of-calibration sensor may not set a trouble code, but it may cause driveability problems.

NOTE: Perform all voltage tests with a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure.
COOLANT TEMP SENSOR RESISTANCE TEST (1)

Temperature °F (°C) Ohms
32 (0) 5800
50 (10) 3800
59 (15) 3000
68 (20) 2600
77 (25) 2000
86 (30) 1700
176 (80) 320
(1) Measure resistance across sensor terminals.
OXYGEN SENSOR VOLTAGE TEST

Condition (1) Volts
Lean 0-.4
Rich .6-1.0
(1) With engine running, measure voltage between pin No. 24 of fuel injection ECU and ground.
TPS SENSOR RESISTANCE TEST (1)

Position Ohms
Fully Closed 2600-3000
Fully Open 1100-1500
(1) Measure resistance between terminals No. 1 and 3.
VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR VOLTAGE TEST (1)

Application Volts
900 Series (2) 0.5-5
9000 Series (3) 0-5
(1) Measure voltage between fuel injection ECU terminal No. 34 and ground.
(2) With one front wheel rotating.
(3) Rotate front wheels with engine. Voltage should increase with increasing wheel RPM.
