Manifold Absolute Pressure (Map) Sensor

  1. MAP sensor is used on 9000 Series Turbo only. Turn ignition off. Locate MAP sensor on firewall. Unplug connector from sensor. Check wiring between sensor connector and ECM for shorts or open circuits. See the WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section. Repair as required.
  2. Connect breakout box between ECM and vehicle harness. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ECM terminals No. 22 and 67. If voltage is not approximately 5.0 volts, temporarily substitute known good ECM. Retest system.
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect vacuum/pressure pump and gauge to sensor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ECM terminals No. 43 and 67 at pressures specified. See MAP SENSOR VOLTAGE  table below. Replace sensor if voltage is not approximately as specified.
    MAP SENSOR VOLTAGE (9000 TURBO)

    Pressure - In. Hg Voltage
    -22.5 0.4
    -15.0 0.9
    0 1.8
    7.5 2.3
    15.0 2.8
    22.5 3.3
CAUTION: Never replace a plastic body mass airflow sensor with an aluminum body mass airflow sensor, or ECM will be damaged.
NOTE: A fault in mass airflow sensor (MAF) will cause CHECK ENGINE light to come on. Check induction system from throttle body to engine for air/vacuum leaks.
