Throttle Position Sensor

  1. Turn ignition off. Unplug connector from throttle position sensor, located on throttle body. Connect ohmmeter to terminals specified in appropriate table. Terminals are marked on sensor.
  2. At idle position, resistance should be 2600-3000 ohms. At full throttle, resistance should be 1100-1500 ohms. Resistance should change smoothly as throttle is opened or closed. Replace throttle position sensor if resistance is not as specified.
  3. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminal No. 1 (Green/Red wire) of throttle position sensor harness connector and a good engine ground. If voltage is not 5 volts, inspect Green/Red wire between harness connector and ECM pin No. 10 for opens or shorts to ground.
  4. Turn ignition off. Inspect for continuity between terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire) of throttle position harness connector and a good ground. Repair Black/White wire if continuity does not exist.
  5. Reconnect wiring to sensor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between sensor terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and a good ground. At idle position, voltage should be about 0.2 volt.
  6. With accelerator pedal in full throttle position, voltage should be about 4 volts. Replace throttle position sensor if voltage or resistance is not within specifications.
