Removal (3.0 L)

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the tension on the belt tensioner and unhook the multigroove V-belt. Make a note of the belt's direction of rotation. The belt must be refitted for the same direction of rotation as previously. Remove the generator air intake by pulling it straight up. Remove the belt tensioner. See Fig 1 .
  3. Raise the car. Remove the front right wheel.
  4. Remove the drive belt cover. See Fig 2 .
  5. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor and plug the hole. Remove the wiring harness clip on the generator. See Fig 3 . Remove the right outboard drive shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in AXLE SHAFTS article.
  6. Raise the car. Remove the generator connectors.
  7. Press the engine forward and fit two wedges between the engine and the engine frame. See Fig 4 .
  8. Remove the two generator retaining bolts, position the generator as illustrated and then lift it out through the right wheel housing. See Fig 4 .
