Steering Wheel: Removal

  1. Set front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS .
  2. Remove air bag module. See AIR BAG (INFLATOR) MODULE . Disconnect horn switch connector and cruise control switch connector (if equipped).
  3. Remove steering wheel nut. Using Steering Wheel Puller (J-1859-03), remove steering wheel. DO NOT  install puller bolts too deeply into center hub, as SIR coil assembly will be damaged. See Figure.
  4. After steering wheel is removed, prevent coil assembly from rotating by inserting Yellow tab (if available) into coil assembly, or tape coil assembly in place.
