Programming Procedure
NOTE:
Each transmitter is coded to prevent another transmitter from activating RKE functions on another Saturn, as long as that particular transmitter has not been specifically programmed to that Saturn.
- Ensure all transmitters that will be programmed are present, even if only one is new. Put key in ignition. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Locate Data Link Connector (DLC) on bottom of left side of trim panel under steering column.
- Connect jumper wire between DLC connector terminals No. 8 (program circuit) and No. 4 (ground). Grounding program circuit causes door locks to lock and unlock once, and deck lid/liftgate to unlatch. After cycling, RKE module/controller is ready to be programmed with transmitter.NOTE: During remainder of programming procedure, if it is desired to have horn chirp when vehicle is locked with transmitter, keep ignition switch in OFF position. If a horn chirp is not desired when vehicle is locked, turn ignition switch to RUN position. This can be done individually for each transmitter.
- While keeping program circuit grounded, simultaneously press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on transmitter for about 8 seconds. Door locks and deck lid/liftgate will cycle again to indicate that transmitter is now ready to use. If there is no response, repeat this step, ensuring both buttons are pressed down firmly. If there is still no response, check transmitter battery and battery contacts. If only programming RKE module with one transmitter, go to step 5).
- Ensure program circuit is still grounded and repeat step 3) with second transmitter. Do not allow more than one minute between programming transmitters or RKE module will exit programming mode and procedure will have to be repeated. If ground wire is accidentally disconnected from DLC, programming procedure will have to be restarted from the beginning.
- Remove jumper wire. Test operation of each transmitter. Close deck lid or liftgate.
