A/C Indicator Light Glows
- Check A/C fuse (10-amp) in underhood junction block, and IGN3 fuse (10-amp) in instrument panel junction block. If fuses are okay, go to step 3). If either fuse is not okay, go to next step.
- Check for a short to ground in Dark Green wire between junction block Gray 68-pin connector terminal "F8" and A/C compressor. Check for a short to ground in Gray wire between junction block Black 68-pin connector terminal "C12" and PCM Light Blue 32-pin connector terminal "J1D01". See the WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Check A/C diode located in junction block. Ensure resistance of compressor clutch coil is 3-4 ohms while hot and cold. Perform repairs as necessary. Ensure proper compressor operation.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Replace A/C control relay in underhood junction block with known good unit (keep old relay). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If A/C compressor operates, discard old relay. If A/C compressor does not operate, go to next step.
- Check voltage between ground and A/C compressor clutch connector Dark Green wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If battery voltage is not present, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to next step. If battery voltage is present, replace A/C compressor clutch. Ensure proper compressor operation.
- Locate high/low pressure cut-out switch forward of left front strut tower, on liquid line. Check voltage between ground and high/low pressure cut-out switch connector terminal "B" (Light Green wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If battery voltage is present, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for open Light Green wire between high/low-pressure cut-out switch and A/C-heater control panel connector terminal "E". If Light Green wire is okay, replace A/C-heater control panel. Ensure proper compressor operation.
- Locate PCM Light Blue 32-pin connector in left rear of engine compartment. Check voltage between ground and PCM Light Blue 32-pin connector terminal "J1C11" (Dark Green wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 8). If battery voltage is present, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to next step.
- Disconnect PCM Light Blue 32-pin connector. Connect a jumper wire between ground and PCM Light Blue 32-pin connector terminal "J1D01" (Gray wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If compressor operates, replace PCM. If compressor does not operate, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to step 9).
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect jumper wire between high/low pressure cut-out switch connector terminals "A" and "B". Check voltage between ground and PCM Light Blue 32-pin connector terminal "J1C11" (Dark Green wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If battery voltage is present, replace high/low pressure cut-out switch. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Dark Green wire between PCM and high/low pressure cut-out switch. Ensure proper compressor operation.
- Check voltage between ground and underhood junction block Black 68-pin connector terminal "B9" (Brown wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for open Brown wire between instrument panel junction block Black 68-pin connector terminal "E10" and underhood junction block Black 68-pin connector terminal "B9". If Brown wire is okay, replace instrument panel junction block. Ensure proper compressor operation.
- Check voltage between ground and underhood junction block Black 68-pin connector terminal "C12" (Gray wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace underhood junction block. Ensure proper compressor operation.
- Check for open in Gray wire between underhood junction block Black 68-pin connector terminal "C12" and PCM connector terminal "J1D01". If Gray wire is okay, go to next step. Repair open in Gray wire between underhood junction block and PCM. Ensure proper compressor operation.
- Check voltage between ground and underhood junction block Gray 68-pin connector terminal "F8" (Dark Green wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If battery voltage is present, check open in Dark Green wire between underhood junction block and A/C compressor. If battery voltage is not present, replace underhood junction block. Ensure proper compressor operation.
