Circuit Description

The brake switch indicates brake pedal status to PCM. Brake switch is normally open. Battery voltage is supplied to PCM brake switch input circuit (terminal No. 35) when brake is applied. Scan tool should display APPLIED when brake pedal is depressed and RELEASED when brake pedal is released.

DTC will set if PCM detects an open brake switch or circuit during vehicle deceleration and when the following conditions occur 6 times:

• Vehicle speed is less than 5 MPH for 6 seconds.
• Then, when vehicle speed is 5-20 MPH for 4 seconds.
• Then, when vehicle speed is greater than 20 MPH for 6 seconds.
