Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, review and record Freeze Frame/Failure Records. If DTC P0453, P0461, P0462, P0463 or P1640 is set, diagnose affected DTC(s) first. Retest system. If DTC P0453, P0461, P0462, P0463 or P1640 is not set, go to next step.
- Start and hold engine speed steady at 2000 RPM. Using scan tool, command "EVAP System Perf" on. Wait for fuel tank pressure to reach 10,000 mm Hg or greater. Command "EVAP System Perf" off and monitor fuel tank pressure. If fuel tank pressure returns to about zero mm Hg within 5 seconds, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If fuel tank pressure does not return to about zero mm Hg within 5 seconds, go to next step.
- Check vent hose for kink, pinch or blockage. Repair or replace as necessary. If hose is okay, check EVAP canister. Replace as necessary. If EVAP canister is okay, replace EVAP vent solenoid.
