Memory Steering Column

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Chevrolet Corvette. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For additional information on power steering column, see STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - CORVETTE article.

Power tilt/telescoping steering column memory settings are stored in the Seat Control Module (SCM). Steering column position sensor is an internal part of telescoping actuator assembly and is an input to SCM. SCM uses position sensor input when storing and recalling memory settings. Memory steering column and easy enter/exit operations are performed by the SCM. However Left Door Control Module (LDCM) controls when memory settings are stored and recalled by use of the serial data line. Body Control Module (BCM) controls when the easy enter/exit operation occurs, by use of the serial data line. BCM stores Regular Production Option (RPO) code configuration which signals to the SCM whether or not tilt/telescoping steering column option is active. RPO code is located on service parts ID label located inside glove box on door. RPO code for power tilt/telescoping steering column is N37. This RPO code configuration received by the SCM must be correct or power seat and telescoping steering column operation will be inoperative or incorrect.
