"K" Body (Deville - With Column Shifter)

  1. Install scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, command park relay on. If relay clicks, go to step  6. If relay does not click, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect park relay. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using test light connected to ground, probe coil side power feed circuit of park relay. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  16. If test light illuminates, go to next step.
  3. Connect a test light between control circuit and coil side power feed circuit of park relay. Using scan tool, command park relay on and off. If test light illuminates on and off with each command, go to step  12. If test light does not illuminate on and off with each command, go to next step.
  4. If test light does not remain illuminated with each command, test control circuit of park relay for an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If condition was corrected, go to step  23. If condition was not corrected, go to step  13. If test light remains illuminated with each command, go to next step.
  5. Check control circuit of park relay for a short to ground. Repair as necessary. If condition was corrected, go to step  23. If condition was not corrected, go to step  13.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect park relay. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using test light connected to ground, probe switch side power feed circuit of park relay. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  17. If test light illuminates, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect park relay. Disconnect brakelight switch connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using test light connected to ground, probe power feed circuit of brakelight switch connector. Using scan tool, command park relay on. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  9. If test light illuminates, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect brakelight switch connector. Disconnect BTSI solenoid connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using test light connected to ground, probe power feed circuit of BTSI solenoid connector. Using scan tool, command park relay on. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10. If test light illuminates, go to step  11.
  9. Check power feed circuit of brakelight switch for an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If condition was corrected, go to step  23. If condition was not corrected, go to step  12.
  10. Check power feed circuit of BTSI solenoid for an open. Repair as necessary. If condition was corrected, go to step  23. If condition was not corrected, go to step  14.
  11. Connect a test light between power feed circuit and ground circuit of BTSI solenoid connector. Using scan tool, command park relay on. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  18. If test light illuminates, go to step  15.
  12. Inspect for poor connections at park relay. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If condition was corrected, go to step  23. If condition was not corrected, go to step  20.
  13. Inspect for poor connections at REAR INTEGRATION MODULE (RIM) harness connector. Repair as necessary. If condition was corrected, go to step  23. If condition was not corrected, go to step  21.
  14. Inspect brakelight switch for proper adjustment. Inspect for poor connections at brakelight switch. Repair as necessary. If condition was corrected, go to step  23. If condition was not corrected, go to step  19.
  15. Inspect BTSI solenoid for proper adjustment and free mechanical movement. Inspect for poor connections at BTSI solenoid. Repair as necessary. If condition was corrected, go to step  23. If condition was not corrected, go to step  22.
  16. Repair coil side power feed circuit of park relay, then go to step  23. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  17. Repair switch side power feed circuit of park relay, then go to step  23.
  18. Repair ground circuit of BTSI solenoid, then go to step  23.
  19. Replace brakelight switch, then go to step  23.
  20. Replace park relay, then go to step  23.
  21. Replace RIM, then go to step  23. See REAR INTEGRATION MODULE  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE.
  22. Replace BTSI solenoid, then go to next step.
  23. Ensure all components disconnected or removed during testing are reconnected and installed on vehicle. Ensure BTSI system operates correctly. See SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. If system does not operate correctly, repeat step  1.
