"W" Body (Century)

NOTE: Before performing the following test, ensure BTSI PARK LOCK fuse (10-amp) is okay. A short to ground in BTSI solenoid power circuit can cause an open fuse.
  1. Ensure gearshift lever is in "P" position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Disconnect BTSI solenoid connector. Using a test light, jumper between BTSI solenoid connector terminal "A" and ground. See Figure. Depress brake pedal. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  3.
  2. Disconnect brakelight switch 4-pin connector C2. Leave test light connected between BTSI solenoid connector terminal "A" and ground. If test light does not illuminate, replace brakelight switch, then go to step  6. If test light illuminates, repair short to battery power in circuit between brakelight switch 4-pin connector C2 terminal "B" and BTSI solenoid connector terminal "A", then go to step  6. See Figure and Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Using test light, jumper between BTSI solenoid connector terminal "B" and battery power. See Figure. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace BTSI solenoid, then go to step  6.
  4. Disconnect Transaxle Range (TR) switch 7-pin connector. Connect test light between TR switch connector terminal "D" and battery power. See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair poor connection or open circuit between TR switch 7-pin connector, terminal "D" and ground (G129), located on transaxle stud, then go to step  6. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  5. Check for poor connection or open circuit between TR switch connector terminal "A" and BTSI solenoid connector terminal "B". See Figure and Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary, then go to next step. If circuit and connections are okay, replace TR switch, then go to next step.
  6. Ensure all components disconnected or removed during testing are reconnected and installed on vehicle. Ensure BTSI system operates correctly. See SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. If system does not operate correctly, repeat step  1.
