Engine Compression

Check engine compression with engine at normal operating temperature, all spark plugs removed and throttle wide open.

2.2L, 2.4L, 3.0L, 3.1L, 3.4L, 3.8L & 5.7L (2)
3.5L & 4.6L (3)
Minimum Compression Pressure
1.0L & 1.3L (1) 156 psi (11.0 kg/cm2 )
1.8L (1) 145 psi (10.2 kg/cm2 )
1.9L 180 psi (12.7 kg/cm2 )
2.2L, 2.4L, 3.0L, 3.1L, 3.4L, 3.8L & 5.7L (2)
3.5L & 4.6L (3)
(1) No cylinder compression reading should be less than 15 psi (1.1 kg/cm2 ) of highest compression reading.
(2) Lowest compression reading should not be less than 70 percent of highest compression reading. No cylinder compression reading should be less than 100 psi (7.0 kg/cm2 ).
(3) Lowest compression reading should not be less than 70 percent of highest compression reading. No cylinder compression reading should be less than 140 psi (9.8 kg/cm2 ).
