Diagnostic Aids
Check for stuck throttle plate. Observe TP angle with throttle closed. If reading is not within the typical scan tool values, check for faults in TP sensor circuit. Ensure MAF reads zero gm/s. with engine off. Check for vacuum leaks, air induction tubing loose or cracked, corroded MAF sensor harness connector, carbon build-up on throttle plate or faulty MAF sensor.
An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed-through wire insulation, or a wire broken inside insulation. Inspect harness connectors for backed-out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, or poor terminal-to-wire connections before replacing component.
