Clutch Assembly: Inspection

  1. Inspect pressure plate assembly surface for wear, cracks or overheating. Replace if damaged.
  2. Check clutch cover for assembly warpage using straightedge and feeler gauge. If warpage exceeds .0006" (.15 mm), replace clutch cover.
  3. Check clutch disc facings for oil or burnt spots. Replace clutch disc, if necessary. Check disc for loose damper springs, hub or rivets. Replace if any are broken or loose.
  4. Check flywheel ring gear for damage. Replace if flywheel is damaged.
  5. Check flywheel-to-clutch disc contact surface for wear, cracks, chatter marks or overheating. Repair or replace, as necessary.
  6. Using dial indicator, measure flywheel runout for at least 2 revolutions. If runout exceeds .0006" (.15 mm), repair or replace flywheel.
  7. Check flywheel with feeler gauge and straightedge for warpage. If warpage exceeds .0006" (.15 mm), repair or replace flywheel.
