Differential Assembly

IMPORTANT:  Always use new differential ball bearings if the bearings were removed.

  1. Press differential ball bearings onto differential case using Differential Bearing Installer SA9120T. Check to make sure bearings are seated.

  2. Roll up the differential thrust liner and insert into the differential case. Align the liner inside case so the side gear section with alignment ring sets into the pocket on the ring gear side of case.
  3. Place the side gears into position in the housing and hold in position.
  4. Install the pinion on the tabbed side of the thrust liner and then pull the thrust liner partially over the pinion gear to hold it in place.

  5. Place the second pinion into position, directly opposite the first pinion installed, and pull the thrust liner out until the pinion shaft hole in the cover and pinions line up."
  6. Rotate the pinions and thrust liner into the housing together until they line up with the pinion shaft bore in the housing. Check that side gears are in proper location.

    IMPORTANT:  Always use new pinion shaft roll pin if the pin was removed.

  7. Install pinion shaft and new roll pin. Be sure to drive roll pin flush with case to prevent interference in speed sensor signal.
