DTC P1404: EGR Position Sensor Not Indicating Closed: Notes
EGR valve consists of a pintle valve that moves by the use of an internal solenoid and an internal position sensor used to determine pintle valve position. PCM controls solenoid by supplying ignition voltage whenever exhaust gas needs to be recirculated into intake manifold. PCM monitors EGR solenoid and position sensor circuits for correct voltage levels at certain times.
DTC will set if EGR solenoid is greater than 4 or 7.8 percent when EGR position is commanded to zero percent for greater than 20 seconds, engine speed less than 5000 RPM, EGR valve commanded to cycle greater than 61 percent 4 times and ignition voltage is greater than 11 volts.
NOTE:
For circuit reference, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
