Procedure For Normal Operation
- Start engine and operate vehicle for 15 miles, 15 minutes or until a normal transaxle operating temperature of 190-200°F (88-93°C) is reached. Park vehicle on level ground and apply parking brake. Move gear selector through all gear positions, ending in Park. Let vehicle idle for 3 minutes with accessories off.
- With the engine running, pull out dipstick and wipe it off with a clean rag or paper towel. Push dipstick back in all the way, and then immediately pull it back out. Check both sides of dipstick, and read the lower level. Transmission fluid level must be in the cross-hatched area. See Fig 1
. There may be some spatters of transmission fluid on dipstick above transmission fluid level. This is normal.
- If transmission fluid level is in cross-hatched area on dipstick, push dipstick back in all the way. If transmission fluid level is below the "ADD" mark, then add only enough Saturn Transaxle Fluid to bring transmission fluid level up into cross-hatched area. When transmission fluid level is at the "ADD" mark it will take approximately 0.5 qts. to bring transmission fluid level up to normal operating range.
