Shift Control Housing (On-Vehicle): Installation
- Clean gasket surfaces and install the shift housing gasket to case.NOTE: Make sure the shift housing is completely down on case before installing bolts. Torquing bolts on a misaligned housing will damage the case.
IMPORTANT: Clean and lubricate fastener with Saturn Transaxle Fluid. Wipe off excess fluid and install.
- Install the shifter housing assembly on case.
Torque Shift Control Housing-to-Case Bolts: 28 N.m (21 ft-lbs)
- Connect back-up lamp switch electrical connector.
- Install battery tray and bolts.
- One bolt is located in fender well.
Torque Battery Tray-to-Frame Rail Bolts: 10 N.m (89 in-lbs)
- One bolt is located in fender well.
- Install PCM and PCM attachment bolts.
Torque PCM Attachment Bolts: 6 N.m (53 in-lbs)
- Reconnect PCM J2 (black 28-way) harness connector.
- Make sure battery tray is clean.
- Make sure that the battery cable ends are clean and free of corrosion. (Clean with a wire brush.)
- Make sure that the battery is in good physical condition (e.g., no cracks, or obvious damage) and that the terminals are clean.
- Install battery carefully in the battery tray; make sure that the terminals do not short against any metal during the installation.
- Install battery hold-down retainer, locking the battery into the tray. Install and tighten the hold-down retainer nut and screws.
Torque Battery Hold Down-to-Battery Tray Fasteners: 9 N.m (80 in-lbs)
IMPORTANT: Attach positive then, negative terminal.
- Install the positive battery cable first.
Torque Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 N.m (13 ft-lbs)
IMPORTANT: Attach positive then, negative terminal.
- Install the negative battery cable last.
Torque Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 N.m (13 ft-lbs)
- Install air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to AIR CLEANER HOUSING AND DUCT ASSEMBLY .
