Checking Fluid Levels: Notes

CAUTION: To prevent damage to automatic transaxle when towing on all four wheels, make sure transmission fluid is no higher than "MAX HOT FOR 4-WHEEL TOWING" level or no lower than "ADD HOT" level shown on dipstick. See Figure . Too much or too little transmission fluid may damage the automatic transaxle when towing on all four wheels. This is especially true if the transaxle is over-filled with transmission fluid.
NOTE: DO NOT overfill. When transmission is cold, fluid level will rise from minimum level to maximum level on dipstick as transmission reaches normal operating temperature. If vehicle has been driven for an extended period of time at high speeds, in city traffic, in hot weather or if vehicle has been pulling a trailer, an accurate transmission fluid level reading cannot be made until vehicle has been parked and is allowed to cool for about 30 minutes.
NOTE: "Add Cold" and "Max Cold" marks on dipstick are for reference only. To determine proper transmission fluid level, it must be checked according to the following procedure.
