Input Shaft Assembly

  1. Lubricate all rotating parts and bearings with Saturn Transaxle Fluid during assembly.

    IMPORTANT:  Soak new blocker rings in Saturn Transaxle Fluid for 15 minutes prior to installation.

  2. Install 3rd drive gear bearing (2).

  3. Install 3rd drive gear (3).
  4. Install 3rd gear synchronizer blocker ring (4).
  5. Install 3rd gear synchronizer spring (5) on 3rd blocker ring (4).

    IMPORTANT:  Be sure tabs on blocker ring (4) are aligned with slots on hub (6).

  6. Press on 3rd/4th gear synchronizer hub (6).
  7. Install 3rd/4th gear synchronizer sleeve (7).

    IMPORTANT:  Be sure to align the mark on the sleeve (7) to the mark on the hub (6) as indicated by the arrows. Make sure alignment marks are facing up.

  8. Install the 3rd/4th input gear bearing race (8). To ease installation, warm bearing race with your hands or heat gun before installing.
  9. Install 4th drive gear bearing (9).
  10. Install the 4th gear synchronizer spring (10) on the 4th gear synchronizer blocker ring (11) and install assembly.
  11. Install 4th drive gear (12), hub side down.
  12. Install 4th input gear thrust washer (13).
  13. Press input shaft (ball) bearing (14) onto shaft with the snap ring groove down (toward 4th gear).
  14. Install 5th gear bearing inner-race (16) and thrust washer (15). Warm bearing race with your hands or heat gun before installing.
