Oil Pressure Check
NOTE:
Tools Required: Oil Pressure Socket (J35749), Oil Pressure Fitting (J44953), and Oil Pressure Gauge (SA9127E).
CAUTION:
Use only oil with the American Petroleum Institute Certified for Gasoline Engines "Starburst" symbol. Failure to use the recommended oil can result in engine damage not covered by your warranty.
NOTE:
As shown in chart below, SAE 5W-30 is best for your vehicle. However, you can use SAE 10W-30 if it's going to be -7°C (20°F) or above. These numbers on an oil container show its viscosity, or thickness. Do not use engine oil with viscosity rating such as SAE 10W-40, SAE 20W-50 and 30W as it does not meet Saturn recommended requirements.
NOTE:
Engine Additives: Don't add anything to your oil. Your Saturn Retailer is ready to advise if something should be added.
NOTE:
The oil level should be 4.76 mm (3/16 in.) above or below the MAX line on the dipstick, after the engine's oil and filter have been changed. If the oil level is at or below the MIN line, check for oil leaks and add oil up to the MAX line.
- Check engine oil level.NOTE: The cylinder block oil pressure sensor and plug threaded holes in the main oil gallery are not pipe threads. Use only oil pressure fitting with seal when checking oil pressure.
- Using oil pressure socket remove oil pressure switch.
- Install oil pressure fitting and oil pressure gauge (LLO shown, L61 similar).
- Start engine and warm to normal temperature.NOTE: Check for oil leakage after installing oil pressure switch.
- Check oil pressure. Oil Pressure at 1000 rpm should be 344.75-531.60 kPa (50-80 psi). Tighten oil pressure sensor-to-block to 35 N.m (26 ft-lbs).
