Diagnostic Procedure
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, command COOLING FAN RELAY off while monitoring COOL FAN REL. - LOW VOLT or COOL FAN REL. - OPEN test. If scan tool shows TEST FAIL, go to next step. If scan tool does not show TEST FAIL, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Check COOL FAN fuse (30-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is open, replace fuse and retest. Using scan tool, command COOLING FAN RELAY on. If fuse is open, repair short to ground in Light Blue wire between underhood fuse block and cooling fan motor or cooling fan motor.
- Remove cooling fan relay and replace with known good relay. Using scan tool, command COOLING FAN RELAY off while monitoring COOL FAN REL. - LOW VOLT or COOL FAN REL. - OPEN test. If test passes, check terminals of cool fan relay. If terminals are okay, replace cool fan relay. If test failed, go to next step.
- If relay clicked once, check for short to ground in Dark Green wire between underhood fuse block and PCM or faulty PCM. If relay did not click once, repair open in Dark Green wire between underhood fuse block and PCM or faulty PCM.
