Diagnostic Procedure
- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.2L ION article.
- Is DTC P0200, P0261, P0262, P0264, P0265, P0267, P0268, P0270 or P0271 set? If yes, diagnose affected DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.2L ION article. If no, go to next step.
- Inspect the injectors fuse. Is the injectors fuse open? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator. Disconnect the fuel injector harness connectors. Probe the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit, fuse side, with a test light connected to battery voltage. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to step 8 . If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine OFF. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to step 11 . If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator. Disconnect the harness connector of a fuel injector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine OFF. Probe the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit, fuse side, with a test light connected to a good ground. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 9 .
- Remove the injectors fuse. Measure the resistance from the injectors fuse to the ignition 1 voltage circuit terminal of a fuel injector using a DVOM. Is the resistance more than 5 ohms? If yes, go to step 10 . If no, go to INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 2.2L ION article.
- Repair the short to ground in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Repair the open in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Repair the high resistance in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Repair the short to a PCM ground in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate the system to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If yes, system is okay at this time. If no, go to step 3 .
