Engine Mechanical Checks

Check for the following engine mechanical problems. See appropriate article in ENGINES:

1. Excessive oil in combustion chamber. Check for leaking valve seals.
2. High cylinder compression. See COMPRESSION under MECHANICAL INSPECTION in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - 2.2L ION article.
3. Combustion chambers for excessive carbon buildup. Clean the combustion chamber by using top engine cleaner. Follow manufacturer's instructions on the can.
4. Incorrect camshaft timing.
5. Check for incorrect basic engine parts. Check the camshaft, cylinder heads, pistons, etc.
