Engine Mechanical Checks

Check for the following conditions. See appropriate article in ENGINES.

• Low cylinder compression. See COMPRESSION under MECHANICAL INSPECTION in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - 2.2L ION article.
• Sticking or leaking valves, worn camshaft lobes, incorrect valve timing, worn rocker arms or broken valve springs.
• Excessive oil in combustion chamber. Check for leaking valve seals.
• Check for incorrect basic engine parts. Check the camshaft, cylinder heads, pistons, etc.
