Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.2L SATURN "L" SERIES article.
  2. Is DTC P0201, P0202, P0203, or P0204 set? If yes, diagnose affected DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.2L SATURN "L" SERIES article. If no, go to next step.
  3. Inspect the injector fuse. Is the injector fuse open? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  6 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove air cleaner outlet resonator. Disconnect fuel injector harness connectors. Probe the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit, fuse side, with a test light connected to battery voltage. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to step  8 . If no, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine OFF. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to step  11 . If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  6. Turn ignition off. Remove air cleaner outlet resonator. Disconnect the harness connector of a fuel injector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine OFF. Probe the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit, fuse side, with a test light connected to a good ground. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  9 .
  7. Remove the injector fuse. Measure the resistance from the injector fuse to the ignition 1 voltage circuit terminal of a fuel injector using a DVOM. Is the resistance more than 5 ohms? If yes, go to step  10 . If no, go to INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 2.2L SATURN "L" SERIES article.
  8. Repair short to ground in fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  9. Repair open in fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  10. Repair high resistance in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  11. Repair short to a PCM ground in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit. After repairs, go to next step.
  12. Operate the system to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If yes, system is okay at this time. If no, go to step  3 .
