April 5, 2026: LEMON Manuals is launched! Read the announcement.

Test Procedure

  1. If diagnostic system check has already been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 3.0L SATURN "L" SERIES article.
  2. Observe the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) with a scan tool. If ECT parameter is above 68°F (20°C), go to next step. If ECT is not above 68°F (20°C), go to step  4 .
  3. Disconnect the fuel injector multi-way harness connector. Measure the resistance of each fuel injector between the ignition feed circuit and the fuel injector control circuit, at the multi-way connector, using a DVOM. If any of the fuel injectors display a resistance outside 13-15.5 ohms, go to step  6 . If fuel injectors are within 13-15.5 ohms, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  4. Disconnect the fuel injector multi-way harness connector. Measure the resistance of each fuel injector between the ignition feed circuit and the fuel injector control circuit, at the multi-way connector, using a DVOM. Record each fuel injector value. Subtract the lowest resistance value from the highest resistance value. If the difference is equal to, or less than 3 ohms, see FUEL INJECTOR BALANCE TEST WITH SPECIAL TOOL  . If the difference is greater than 3 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Add all of the fuel injector resistance values to obtain a total resistance value. Divide the total resistance value by the number of fuel injectors, to obtain an average resistance value. Subtract the lowest individual fuel injector resistance value from the average resistance value. Subtract the average resistance value from the highest individual fuel injector resistance value. Replace the fuel injector that displays the greatest resistance difference above or below the average. See FUEL RAIL & INJECTORS under FUEL SYSTEMS in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - 3.0L SATURN "L" SERIES article. After replacement is complete, go to step  7 .
  6. Replace the fuel injector or fuel injectors that are not within 13-15.5 ohm range. See FUEL RAIL & INJECTORS under FUEL SYSTEMS in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - 3.0L SATURN "L" SERIES article. After replacement is complete, go to next step.
  7. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If you corrected the condition, system is okay. If not, go to step  2 .
