Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new inner boot clamp on the steering gear boot.

    IMPORTANT: The sealing surfaces must be clean, dry and free of debris prior to boot installation.
  3. Apply grease provided in the service kit to the indicated locations.
  4. Slide the boot over the tie rod end in order to seat the boot in the steering gear groove.

  6. Use the SA9164C  to crimp the clamp securing the boot to the steering gear housing. See Special Tools .
  7. Install the clamp on outer end of the boot.

  9. Thread the jam nut on to the inner tie rod the number of threads recorded during removal.
  10. Install the outer tie rod end. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  11. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
