Installation Procedure
- Install a new inner boot clamp on the steering gear boot.
- Apply grease provided in the service kit to the indicated locations.
- Slide the boot over the tie rod end in order to seat the boot in the steering gear groove.
- Use the SA9164C to crimp the clamp securing the boot to the steering gear housing. See Special Tools .
- Install the clamp on outer end of the boot.
- Thread the jam nut on to the inner tie rod the number of threads recorded during removal.
- Install the outer tie rod end. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.
- Lower the vehicle.
IMPORTANT:
The sealing surfaces must be clean, dry and free of debris prior to boot installation.
