Inspection Procedure
- INSPECT ECM (+B VOLTAGE)
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Measure the voltage between the terminals of the E3 and E6 ECM connectors.
Standard:
ECM (+B VOLTAGE)Tester Connections Specified Conditions +B (E3-1) - E1 (E6-7) Between 9 V and 14 V
- OK: REPLACE ECM (See REPLACEMENT )
- NG: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BODY GROUND)
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the E6 ECM connector.
- Check the resistance.
Standard (Check for open):
ECM - BODY GROUND (CHECK FOR OPEN)Tester Connections Specified Conditions E1 (E6-7) - Body ground Below 1 Ω - Reconnect the ECM connector.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: Go to next step.
- INSPECT IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY
- Disconnect the I10 ignition switch connector.
- Check the resistance.IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY
Ignition Switch Positions Tester Connections Specified Conditions LOCK All Terminals 10 kΩ or higher ACC 1-3 Below 1 Ω ON 1-2, 1-3, 2-3, 5-6 Below 1 Ω START 4-5, 4-6, 5-6, 1-2 Below 1 Ω - Reconnect the ignition switch connector.
- NG: REPLACE IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK FUSE (EFI FUSE)
- Remove the EFI fuse from the engine room R/B.
- Check the EFI fuse resistance.
Standard: Below 1 Ω
- Reinstall the EFI fuse.
- NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO FUSE
- OK: Go to next step.
- INSPECT EFI RELAY
- Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
- Check the EFI relay resistance.
Standard:
EFI RELAYTester Connections Specified Conditions 3 - 5 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 5 Below 1 Ω (When battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2) - Reinstall the EFI relay.
- NG: REPLACE EFI RELAY
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EFI RELAY - ECM, EFI RELAY - BODY GROUND)
- Check the harness and connector between the EFI relay and ECM.
- Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
- Disconnect the E3 ECM connector.
- Check the resistance.
Standard (Check for open):
EFI RELAY - ECM, EFI RELAY - BODY GROUND (CHECK FOR OPEN)Tester Connections Specified Conditions EFI relay (3)-+B (E3-1) Below 1 Ω Standard (Check for short):
EFI RELAY - ECM, EFI RELAY - BODY GROUND (CHECK FOR SHORT)Tester Connections Specified Conditions EFI relay (3) or +B (E3-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reinstall the EFI relay.
- Reconnect the ECM connector.
- Check the harness and connector between the EFI relay and body ground.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: Go to next step.
- Check the harness and connector between the EFI relay and ECM.
- CHECK FUSE (AM2 FUSE)
- Remove the AM2 fuse from the engine room R/B.
- Check the AM2 fuse resistance.
Standard: Below 1 Ω
- Reinstall the AM2 fuse.
- NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO FUSE
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EFI RELAY - EFI FUSE)
- Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
- Remove the EFI fuse from the engine room R/B.
- Check the resistance.
Standard (Check for open):
EFI RELAY - EFI FUSETester Connections Specified Conditions EFI relay (5) - EFI fuse (2) Below 1 Ω Standard (Check for short):
EFI RELAY - EFI FUSETester Connections Specified Conditions EFI relay (5) - EFI fuse (2) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reinstall the EFI relay.
- Reinstall the EFI fuse.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EFI RELAY - IGNITION SWITCH)
- Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
- Disconnect the I10 ignition switch connector.
- Check the resistance.
Standard (Check for open):
EFI RELAY - IGNITION SWITCH (CHECK FOR OPEN)Tester Connections Specified conditions IG2 (I10-6) - EFI relay (2) Below 1 Ω Standard (Check for short):

- Reinstall the EFI relay.
- Reconnect the ignition switch connector.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - AM2 FUSE)
- Disconnect the I10 ignition switch connector.
- Remove the AM2 fuse from the engine room R/B.
- Check the resistance.
Standard (Check for open):
IGNITION SWITCH - AM2 FUSE (CHECK FOR OPEN)Tester Connections Specified conditions AM2 (I10-5) - AM2fuse (2) Below 1 Ω Standard (Check for short):

- Reconnect the ignition switch connector.
- Reinstall the AM2 fuse.
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: CHECK AND REPAIR HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AM2 FUSE - POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL, EFI FUSE - POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL)
