Mass Air Flow Meter: Inspection

  1. INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER
    1. Measure the voltage to check the mass air flow sensor.
      1. Apply battery voltage across terminals 1 (+B) and 2 (E2G).
      2. Using a voltmeter, connect the positive (+) tester probe to terminal 3 (VG), and negative (-) tester probe to terminal 2 (E2G).
      3. Blow air into the mass air flow meter, and then check that the voltage fluctuates.

If the voltage does not fluctuate, replace the mass air flow meter.

    2. Measure the resistance to check the intake air temperature sensor.

      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals 4 (THA) and 5 (E2).

    Standard resistance

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    4 (THA) - 5 (E2) 13.6 to 18.4 kΩ at -20°C (-4°F)
    4 (THA) - 5 (E2) 2.21 to 2.69 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
    4 (THA) - 5 (E2) 0.493 to 0.667 kΩ at 60°C (140°F)

If the result is not as specified, replace the mass air flow meter.
